In this D6 Orange Wine module, I’ll guide you through the key themes needed for the WSET Level 4 Diploma Independent Research Assignment on orange wine.
We’ll look at what the term “orange wine” means, how these wines are made around the world, and the typical winery practices involved, including skin contact, maceration, extraction, fermentation vessels, sulphur use, filtration and stability.
I’ll also explore the commercial side of orange wine: the challenges of selling these wines in both the on-trade and off-trade, as well as the current market opportunities and future outlook for the style.
Alongside the main teaching, the module includes interviews with winemakers producing orange wine, giving you real-world insight into how and why these wines are made, positioned and sold.
The aim is to help you build a clear, well-structured and critically informed response for your D6 assignment.
